Greater Statesville Development Corporation

Community Profile: Statesville Regional Airport

Located about 45 minutes north of Charlotte's central business district and 40 minutes west of Winston-Salem, the Statesville Regional Airport is within minutes of many major corridors: I-40, I-77 and Highways 70 and 64.

Statesville Air space is controlled from Atlanta, so our clients save time by getting into their landing patterns more quickly than other airports in the region controlled by Charlotte.

Improvements
An Instrument Landing System (ILS) consisting of a Localizer, DME, Glideslope, and MALSR approach lighting is operational for Runway 28, allowing aircraft to land in weather with ceilings as low as 200 feet and visibility at ½ mile. Runways 10 and 28 each have a GPS approach, and Runway 10 has a VOR/DME approach off of the Barretts Mountain VOR (BZM).

The extended north parallel taxiway is complete. A new south parallel taxiway is planned. These new taxiways will provide safe and convenient access to each end of the runway from anywhere on the airfield and increase the capacity of the airfield to accommodate more landings and takeoffs.

Construction of 72,000 square feet of new hangar space is complete.  Additional parking is planned with construction of a new terminal.  Improvements to the Terminal Area will include a new entrance road from Airport Road, creating a new "gateway to the City" and a positive first impression of the community for visitors arriving by air. These improvements will accommodate increasing numbers of visiting, as well as, based aircraft.

Easy access by road and air, 7006 feet of runway, multiple instrument approaches, low property tax rates and expanded corporate hangar area will encourage businesses to locate their aircraft at the Statesville Regional Airport.
