About GSDC: Why Greater Statesville Region

STATESVILLE HAS IT ALL

Greater Statesville has many factors that make it a wise choice for your business.  We have a No. 1 Micropolitan Area ranking by Site Selection Magazine seven times since 2000.

Iredell County is the 10th fastest growing county and we are located in the 10th largest state in America. Iredell has long maintained an outstanding geographical location, and is the only county in North Carolina that is bounded by nine other counties.

Our region maintains a quality of life that is great for business, families and recreation, and a climate that allows you to enjoy it all year-round.

A DYNAMIC AREA WITH AN IDEAL LOCATION FOR INDUSTRY - Statesville’s superior location at the intersection of I-77 and I-40 puts our community within easy reach of Charlotte, the largest MSA in the Carolinas just 38 miles south. We offer easy access to Lake Norman with over 500 miles of shoreline, the largest lake in North Carolina is only 15 minutes away. Lake Norman offers a wide variety of year-round recreational activities that include boating, swimming and fishing.

Drive north for 45 minutes and you’ll find yourself on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the most popular places in the National Park System.

In less than one hour your can drive south on I-77/85 to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport which offers direct flights to Europe and 123 non-stop flights across North America. Or, drive east and in less than one hour on I-40 you’ll be at Piedmont Triad International Airport and the Federal Express Mid-Atlantic Sorting Hub.

Statesville has an outstanding labor force of over 80,000, with more than 12,000 jobs in manufacturing. Strength of the community is our skilled workforce and our customized worker training programs offered through historic (1854) Mitchell Community College’s new Workforce Development Campus.

Other assets for the area include Statesville Regional Airport, which has a 7,006- ft. runway and ample hanger space. It is home to Lowe’s Home Improvement Aviation, Newell-Rubbermaid Aviation and a number of NASCAR aviation operations.  A strengthening and rehabilitation project for the airport is currently underway.  The runway and all taxiways will be strengthened to accommodate 99,500 pound dual wheel gear aircraft.  This project is planned for completion in 2009.  A new south parallel taxiway is also in the planning stages.  This new taxiway will allow exclusive access to the corporate hangar area of ‘Taxiway F’.

The Town of Troutman is also part of Greater Statesville and includes scenic waterfront communities on Lake Norman. Troutman offers the fastest growing residential section of our service area, with a significant number of new homes under construction. Iredell County is a thriving industrialized area, and the Greater Statesville service area includes more than 180 industrial operations that include plastics, transportation equipment, metal working, and distribution.
